We've had a pretty busy week in the the Media Center! This week we continued with library stories, library rules and library searching. We also had a fire safety drill and Mr. Schauerhamer (dad of Robin and Troy) joined both fifth grade classes to teach them how to solve a rubiks cube. During checkout time a number of the students also were invited into our makerspace by Mrs. Woodcox to sew fabric bookmarks.
With Kindergarten I read the fun book Miss Smith's Incredible Storybook and did a Smartboard storybook character match.
With First Grade we read Library Lil and started making a book care book that will come home when completed.
With Second Grade we read The Library Mouse and then I introduced how to use our library search. Many of the second graders had already tried searching when in first grade but this was their first formal introduction to independent searching.
Third, Fourth and Fifth grade brought their laptops to the library and I reviewed how to use the library search catalog and the different types of searches available. We talked about the advantages and disadvantages of the different searches available. As usual they all got a chance to independently practice and also follow along with me as I showed the differences of each search.
Our tables activities were:
Red: Omnifix cubes
Yellow: 1-2 Duplo, 3-5 Lego
Green: color shapes
Blue: Color Clix
Purple: Zoob
