This was our Second Shining Star Assembly and I choose Mrs. Hawkes' class as the recipients of the Media Center Golden Book Award.
Since this is the week before Halloween, I choose Halloween themed books and activities.
Kindergarten are learning about spiders in their classroom so I we read a fiction and nonfiction book about spiders and we completed a Smartboard activity about the parts of a spider.
I mixed it up with First Grade and instead of reading to them we watched the animated story Room on the Broom.
Second grade heard Picnic at Mudsock Meadows and we worked on character descriptions.
Third Grade continued looking at fiction call numbers and ways to choose a book when there are literally thousands to choose from in our media center.
Fourth Grade began looking at how nonfiction books are arranged in the media center.
We finished looking at the Dewey Decimal System with my fifth grade classes and are now taking a detailed look at the kinds of reference sources available to them.
