Wow, week 4 already and our media center is busy, busy, busy!
I introduced some STEM'y activities that the students can use when they have completed their work and checked out their books. Here's some of the things we got up to, and in to, this week.
I introduced some STEM'y activities that the students can use when they have completed their work and checked out their books. Here's some of the things we got up to, and in to, this week.
- I chose two cute books to read aloud to kindergarten this week, Miss Smith's Incredible Story Book and Is Your Mama a Llama? We spent some time talking about how to care for library books when we take them home. Then we spent some time checking out books and using our new STEMy table activities.
- First Grade heard the stories Miss Smith's Incredible Story Book and Library Lil. We worked on page two of our 'How I use Good Manners with my Library Books' mini-booklet and then we spent some time checking out books and using our new STEMy table activities.
- Second Grade heard the stories The Library Mouse and Library Mouse - A Friend's Tale. I spent some time showing them how to use the library search engine and then they practiced independently. They used their new found skills to check out books and then used our new STEMy table activities.
- I also reviewed how to search for books with the third, fourth and fifth graders. They then completed an activity where they we required to collect book information on a CAT form (ask your student what CAT stands for) and then also locate that book on our library shelves - no small feat but they all did a great job! The upper graders were also very happy to try out the STEMy table activities too.
